The other day I was walking with my wife and our Akita puppy Ryona, and we saw a man running alongside his pet. I thought to myself, though we aren’t there yet, this would be a nice experience I could someday share with our dear doggie.
Right now, it’s not the time
For we are not up for such fun
She recovering from a spay surgery
Me too tired for such a run
She all wrapped up in a protective garment
Me healing on the outer and the inner
She mainly resting, walking and eating what she can
Me feeding her breakfast and dinner
Both of us, at present, a bit down and out
There’s nothing either of us can really say
But - ah - destiny sees it all so clearly
Ryona and I will run some day
We see others having a blast at the park
Jogging around the grounds, the cement track
They look like they are experiencing a runner’s high
To the bottom of the hill and back
It warms the heart to see the two connecting
It is an uplift to see what they have got
A pet and a pet owner, side by side
The dynamic duo trotting a simple trot
That will be us too, that will be us
But, alas, that is not us today
For we still have a ways to go
Ryona and I will run some day
And you too, reading this here poem
Your visions are out before you now
Dreams, goals, experiences, relationships
And all the love that heaven will allow
Leading us all to similar queries
With whom can we run? Where will we go?
Ready or not, the games on the playground are here
The starting point of the starting line - who is to know?
So run free dreamers, go for the gold, go for it all
All of us finding our paths, all of us finding a way
For me and a pooch, we have a trail laid out before us
Ryona and I will run some day
