Finding Unity In A Time of Uncertainty
Inspiring "I, For One" Poem Discovered In Volume One of Breadcrumbs Book
What a world we live in. So much division and divisiveness. Who wants a break? Interestingly enough, in reviewing my first “Breadcrumbs” book of poetry, I was surprised to find a piece of prose that spoke of a longing for unity around an election year. That was 2012! Now, 12 years later - even with a second “Breadcrumbs Vol 2” in stores, the earlier words still carry a similar hope to which I cling. So I share it here, imagining that some breadcrumbs, no matter how old, are still available upon the ground to be gratefully found along the path.
I, For One
So for whom should we vote? Whom do we stand behind? Should it really be one politician? Or should we hold out for – like the U.S Constitution dictates, like the spiritual lessons present - something deeper and something higher?
When the elections come upon us and we're slammed with the lies
Full of politicians, postures, espionage and spies
I search for the truth, and for something to believe
For what this country, and its people, truly need
Because this is the home of the brave, the home of the free
I, for one, support humanity
When we're forced to make a stand and decide
And no longer, under unconscious covers, cower and hide
We must plunge our stake firmly into the ground
So we can – without wonder – truly find what we have found
We support a platform, a way, a path, a reality
I, for one, support humanity
I, for one – even if it's just me
I support the life, the love, humanity
I, for one – even if I'm too blind to see
I support the collective, the one humanity
So whatever it takes, and however long we must wait
I will not be hooked like a fish, I will not take the bait
I will hear the common will, the one united heart
This is the only place where the peace can start
I am standing up for the one singular force
So that all are included as we stay the course
I support the view, where we all watch the one rising sun
I, for one
I, for one
